A Little About Me:

I am a dabbler of sorts. As well as being a Board member for the Rossland Mountain Market Society, I am also an Artist, a Wardrobe Specialist, a Maker of Upcycled Crafts, a Youth Worker, a Performer, and a Nice Person : )

I live in Rossland B.C. but grew up all over the United States. I love to kayak, explore, garden, read, make my friends laugh, and help people. I have a cat named MoFo that lives up to his name. I have been an Artist since the time people started letting me call myself that. I have performed many times but never on main street sidewalks as I plan to with this challenge.

Challenge Members:
Kristen Renn aka lil' Bear
My Challenge:

Throughout the next 30 days (the month of April) I plan to perform 15 hours worth of in-your-(the Public's)-face activism. I will be choosing 8 different social issues of which I feel strongly about, plan at least 8 different 'performances and/or stunts' of sorts that will hopefully invoke thoughts or feelings in viewers, take said plan to the main streets of my local town, and proceed to engage people. I plan on documenting via photos and video as much as I can and will be writing updates to explain each act of...well...activism : )

Thank you so much for your interest and support in this endeavor and in helping our Local Market. Your donations mean so much!

*All acts of Activism in this challenge express the opinions and views of myself only, and though this is something I have always wanted to do and now have the chance to while also supporting my local Farmer's Market, they are solely my opinions and views and don't speak for those of the Market.

This Challenge Is Important To Me Because:

I love people and I love talking to people. I am also one of the many that suffers from Cronic Creativity Syndrom. Because of these 2 characterisitics, I like to think up new and interesting ways to interact with others. Even though many of us have tremendous empathy and intellegence, I find that often in public we can be bound by a preconceived notion of politeness or guarded-ness that keep us from talking about issues that aren't always the funnest or the most comfortable to address, let alone acknowlege. Since the beginning (you know of time and stuff), art and performance has been a venue for social awareness and 'taboo' topics to be confronted.  A way for the public to have a thought or emotion stirred while also keeping a safe distance. Well, I would like to see what happens when I try some of my own social 'engagement' directed at the (albiet small) Masses of Rossland.

7th Act of Activism Complete! Issue: Validating your own feelings. Pushing back against the stigma of metal and emotional health and it's equal importance to a functional everyday life.

I had a fun turn out yesterday (Monday) and got passersby, big and small, to write down a feeling they have sometimes. Acknowledging those feelings and accepting them as important and giving permission to validate without judgment. Even our own Market Manager came by!

5th and 6th Act Completed. Both were about having mindfulness about what and When Earth Day really is. Last Saturday I got to paint kids faces and set up some Earth Day coloring sheets and talk to them about Earth day. Then Yesterdsay I went out in 'full form' with this suit and this sign and instead of telling people Earth Day was everyday, I just posed the question...mindfulness and consideration, Thanking people for their thoughtfulness in dealing with this World and the others we share it with.

3rd Act of Activism completed (on Monday, a couple of days ago)! Live Painting!! Issue: Do you and your community Really support artists (of all kind)?...or do u just utilize them? How do you value your local artists/creatives/crafts persons?.... The Arts create Culture, Culture strengthens Community, and Community supports The Arts...or at least should.

It was fun and challenging but I finished the artwork (albeit for with just one typo to be corrected later)

I wore a sign that stated 1 in 3 women have experienced sexual abuse or sexual assault. Today I will choose to trust you. Do you trust me? Give me a hug...

1st Act of Activism Completed! Plastic Bag Thoughtfulness! I handmade a dress from used bags I collected from local people's kitchen drawers and cabinets. Along with an info & fact-board giving some mindfulness and reminders about the impact of using reusable bags, I was perched in the Square in front of my local grocery store for 2 hours. People were super surprised and supportive: )
